Gogoi Govt celebrates 4th year of third term

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 23 The two-day mega event to celebrate completion of the fourth year of the Congress-led State governments third term began at the Sarusajai Stadium today, even as the AGP blasted the government for spending huge sums of public money for the same.

The event started with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurating a programme organised by the education department. He claimed his government had undertaken schemes for the welfare of students, asserting that no student would be deprived of quality education due to fund crunch. He dwelt at length on the schemes and urged the students to work hard to achieve their goals.

The programme, attended by over 8,000 students from 61 schools, was also addressed by Education Minister Sarat Barkataky. Gogoi also inaugurated a model village built at the venue of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, the AGP demanded that the Chief Minister make public the amount of public money spent for the lavish celebrations.

AGP president Atul Bora said the government had no right to misuse public money in such a manner.
