JORHAT, June 8 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today took a dig at former President Pranab Mukherjee for attending yesterdays RSS rally at Nagpur.
Interacting with mediapersons here today, Gogoi said that the former President should not have attended the RSS event in view of the ideology he followed.
Gogoi said that Mukherjee knew very well the dogmatic ideology preached and practised by the RSS and it was completely opposite to what Mukherjee as a former Congress leader and during his tenure as President, had believed and followed.
The former Chief Minister also expressed his surprise over Mukherjee reportedly heaping praise on RSS leader KB Hedgewar by mentioning him as a great son of Mother India.
He said a man of his stature should not have gone to the RSS event as throughout his public life he (Mukherjee) was known for believing in pluralistic and secular ideals.
The former Chief Minister said RSS is known to be adhering to and propagating an extreme brand of Hinduism by terming it as Hindutva which was not inclusive.
Mukherjees attendance has led to the Sangh organisation taking mileage of his presence. Mukherjee could have avoided going to the event as it has confused the people who now may think about him in a different manner, Gogoi said.
