GUWAHATI, Nov 20 - Reacting to the Pengeree incident of Saturday, ex-Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said despite intelligence inputs that ultras in Assam are carrying out new recruitment, the government did not take the matter seriously.
NDA governments lacklustre policy towards militancy has resulted in Saturdays incident in Pengeree where militants were seen using sophisticated weapons to attack the armed forces. Development activities have come to a standstill, unemployment has increased in rural and remote areas. Remote areas like Pengeree are suffering due to the policies of the Union and State governments and militancy is reviving in those pockets, Gogoi said in a statement.
He said government must take strong, firm and effective action against ultras. It must ensure development of remote areas as its priority and unemployment must be dealt with as fast as possible... mere statements before the media wont solve the problem.
