By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 16 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today demanded a judicial inquiry into the death of Jayanta Bora of Borhola in Jorhat district.

I strongly condemn the brutal killing of an innocent youth of Titabor Borhola, Jayanta Bora, in the custody of Army. A judicial inquiry should be instituted to find out the real truth and punish the culprits. Adequate compensation should be paid to the next of kin, Gogoi said.

Meanwhile, Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the issue and demanded a high-level inquiry.

A youth, Jayanta Bora, son of Lila Bora of Kakodonga Habi Gaon under Borhola PS in Jorhat district allegedly died in custody of 244 Field Regiment based in Charaideo. On June 14 midnight, he was taken into custody following a search operation led by Army personnel. Later, he was declared dead at JMCH and a report is awaited. I request you to conduct a high-level inquiry and ensure strict punishment for anybody found guilty, said Gogoi.
