Gogoi decries Modis comment in RS

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 10 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that years of experience of governance and serving the people have enabled the Congress to inculcate a habit of developing a microscopic view to get a real picture of the incidents happening all around.

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modis speech on the Motion of Thanks on the Presidents address in the Rajya Sabha, where Modi had taken a dig at Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad for bringing a record of people who did not have account under Jan Dhan Yojana, Gogoi said his party prefers to take a critical view on anything where peoples interests are involved.

It needs mention here that Modi ridiculed Ghulam Nabi Azad describing his exercise of presenting the above record as working with a microscope and said if the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) had done its work even with binoculars when it was in power, it would have been able to do a good job.

Taking a jibe at Modis comment, Gogoi said, We have sensitivity towards peoples problems and we always take a microscopic view to see things critically to bring people to the agenda of schemes. We generally avoid binoculars as they give inflated images. We have developed a microscopic view and consequently see the lapses and hollowness of the scheme of things enunciated by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

He further said that though the NDA government had launched the Jan Dhan Yojana with much fanfare, people are yet to get benefits under the scheme as crediting every individuals bank account with Rs 15 lakh still remains a far cry.

Gogoi also flayed Modi for his assertion on doubling farmers income by 2022 and wanted to know whether his assertion commensurates with fund allocation. He said 2022 is a long wait for the farmers for what can be described as their long due and doubling their income is not a great achievement on the part of the government, especially in the face of rising inflation.

Branding the NDA governments pseudo pro-poor stance as a mere eyewash, Gogoi said fund cut on backward region grant, depriving the North East of the Special Category Status, suspension of the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy, depriving the State of its rightful claim on flood and erosion management, cut on MGNREGA and IAY schemes are some of the instances of the Centres anti-poor and anti-Assam agenda. Gogoi further added, When statements are not complemented with action, the Centre should desist from misleading the people of the nation by rhetoric.
