GUWAHATI, March 6 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has highly condemned the lynching of a youth by a mob yesterday in Dimapur town of Nagaland, stated an official press release here today.
The Chief Minister, while highly condemning the lynching of the youth by a mob on the streets of Nagaland, described the act as �barbaric, heinous and inhuman�.
�The manner in which the youth was dragged out of the jail and killed brutally by a mob on the streets is highly condemnable,� he said and added that none should take law into their hands and stern action must be taken against those involved in the heinous crime.
At the same time, the Chief Minister pointed out that law should have been allowed to take its own course. �The crime committed by the youth is equally condemnable. But he should have been tried as per the law,� he added.
The Chief Minister said that the incident has been taken up in the right earnest both at the Chief Ministerial and Chief Secretary levels.
Meanwhile, the All Assam Students� Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity and the Assam Minorities Students� Union, too condemned the barbaric killing of Syed Farid Khan in Dimapur holding both the Nagaland government and the Centre responsible.
They also burnt the effigy of Nagaland Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister, demanding justice for the family members of the deceased.
The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) demanded strict action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, according to an official press release, Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang today assured Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of necessary actions against the persons who lynched the alleged rapist.
The Nagaland Chief Minister also assured his Assam counterpart that if there were lapses on the part of any officials, then necessary
steps would also be taken against them.
