Gogoi calls for release of JNU students

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 25 - Condemning the arrest of JNU students Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal by Delhi Police, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today demanded their immediate release.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the senior Congress leader said that the two students had not committed any offence.

It is a fact that they took part in a peaceful agitation in Delhi in February 2020 against the Citizens Amendment Act (CAA). They were not indulging in any violence and didnt incite people to show violent behaviour. Indian Constitution has given right to everybody to express or to agitate against the decision of the government and both of them did nothing except exercising their fundamental right...We have no doubt this is nothing but political vendetta and attempt to suppress their fundamental right. I, therefore, request you to kindly direct Delhi Police to release both the students immediately, Gogoi said in the letter.
