GUWAHATI, July 9 � Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today alleged that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was �playing his old trick� by bringing the LoC matter into focus to divert public attention from the Rs-1000 crore NC Hills Autonomous Council scam, which unveiled the nexus between the government and the insurgent groups.
Further commenting on Gogoi�s knowledge on legal issues, Mahanta said in a statement that despite being a lawyer by profession, Gogoi did not seem to have fundamental concept of law.
�Being a lawyer, it is expected of him to be aware of the definitions of acquittal and discharge provided in the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. The question of acquittal or discharge comes when there is a trial in the proper court of law. I�ll be obliged if Gogoi shows me the law and decision of any court, which has tried me on LoC case,� the statement mentioned.
He further asked the present Chief Minister to go through the court verdicts that have already been published in the Gauhati Law Time and records available in the court.
Yesterday, Gogoi had asked Mahanta whether he was discharged or acquitted by any court of law on the LoC scam.
