Gogoi assures land for Guwahati Press Club

GUWAHATI, June 18 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday assured a plot of land for the Guwahati Press Club (GPC). Tarun Gogoi who was the Guest of the Month at GPC here, expressed his goodwill for the journalist fraternity and promised that he would do the needful for GPC.

On the occasion, a power point presentation was made in front of Gogoi, where a number of pictorial slides of the proposed press club were shown. The proposed press club is a state-of-the-art building complex that would stand out as a landmark of Guwahati. The building will have all the modern facilities with provisions of high tech modern IT gadgets and instruments along with V-sets for instant access to and from all over the globe.

The building is planned and designed with total application of green concepts such as use of green construction materials, energy efficient, environment friendly, efficient management for use of natural light, natural air and solar energy to minimize electricity consumption, healthy indoor ambience, proper drainage and garbage disposal facilities, rain water harvesting etc, it was explained.

Other important features of the proposed five-storied press club building will be earthquake resistant design, pre- engineered multi level building complex with steel frame structure for better structural responses, high quality fire fighting arrangements, car parking, underground water reservoir, etc.

A memorandum with the print-outs of the presentation was handed over to the Chief Minister by Nava Thakuria, secretary of GPC.

It needs to be mentioned here that the GPC hall was officially converted into an air-conditioning auditorium from today. Three AC machines presented by Satyam Foundation were activated in the presence of the Chief Minister.
