BARPETA, June 14 - A gang of goat-lifters was picked up by police on Monday afternoon after they were manhandled by public in the heart of Barpeta town.
According to information available a gang of goat-lifters travelling in a Tata Nano car tried to steal a stray goat at Ambarihati here in broad day light on Monday. A passer-by noticed the incident and made a hue and cry. Soon people gathered there and obstructed the vehicle. They noticed that four goats were inside the car.
The people soon understood the whole events and began to beat the gang. Police on getting the information rushed to the spot and rescued them and took them to the police station. The thieves were identified as Ayub Ali, Aminul Hoque, Saiful Islam and Jonab Ali. Among them Saiful Islam and Jonab are brothers.
It is learnt that Ayub Ali the driver cum owner of the car has confessed to the police that they have adopted it as a profession. They often move along the roads in search of stray pets and lift them.
