SILCHAR, Jan 9 - Goalpara was awarded the final berth after hosts Silchar decided to walk out from the men�s basketball semifinal in the ongoing 3rd State Games played amidst numerous interruptions here on Saturday. Goalpara was leading 31-22 when the players from the home team pulled themselves out of the game. They will play the final match against Guwahati.
In the words of Subrata Dey, the match referee, staff members of the home side raised complains of poor turf and interrupted the match on number of occasions. However, the match had to be stopped taking consent from coaches of both teams. Later, when the match resumed, the home side continued complaining and eventually walked out of the match.
Meanwhile, there were reports of mismanagement regarding the food served to the players. On Friday night, a section of the players who have been accommodated at the Government HS School campus raised complains that the food served to them by the organisers is of poor quality and largely inadequate. This resulted in chaos and police had to intervene to take the situation under control.
