Goalpara DC abused by BJP office bearer

By Correspondent

GOALPARA, Feb 2 - In a shocking display of brazen power and hooliganism, Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara, Varnali Deka was verbally abused by a BJP office bearer after a protest rally entered the campus of the Deputy Commissioners office to submit a memorandum on February 1, following a demonstration against the alleged atrocities on BJP workers in reaction to the Tinsuikia incident earlier, where the BJP district president was assaulted by miscreants.

The incident which was caught on camera and the video which went viral on social media and was also aired by various TV channels showed one Dipankar Roy, general secretary of the district unit of the BJP using abusive and insulting words during a telephonic conversation, because the DC did not turn up to receive their memorandum.

Meanwhile, talking to this correspondent over phone, Varnali Deka said that there was a clear misunderstanding over the whole issue. Firstly, instead of going out, there is a clear government directive for the deputy commissioners to receive memorandums only in their office chambers and secondly, she had already assigned one of her additional district magistrates to receive the memorandum from the BJP office bearers. She also added that she was on station leave approved by the government and was already on her way to the airport to catch a flight to Delhi for attending an election training when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, the incident which has failed to elicit any response from various social organisations and forums of the town has been roundly condemned by all conscious people of Goalpara, who opined that this incident of errant behaviour by politicians has become a serious issue in the district. They also said that the political parties should analyse the background of such incumbents and strict disciplinary action should be in place to check such behaviour.
