GNRC initiative to promote research

GUWAHATI, Nov 2 � With an aim to create an atmosphere of academic excellence and encourage research activities, the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC) has taken an initiative to felicitate doctors and individuals, who have shown special interest in varied medical subjects and have got their papers based on their research published.

An Academic Achievement Award ceremony was organised at GNRC Hospital, Dispur in the presence of Dr Hiren Gohain as chief guest with Dr Mamoni Roisom Goswami and Professor Umesh Chandra Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sri Manta Sankardev Health Science University as guests of honour.

The individuals felicitated in the award ceremony were Dr Sanjeev Kumar Handique, Dr Baijayanta Saharia, and Dr Pranita Saikia Medhi, whose works had been published in American Journal of Neuro-radiology in January 2008 issue. Dr Madhumita Das, Dr. Manash Ghose and Nupur Choudhry were felicitated for getting their works published in Indian Journal of Clinical Biochemisty (Volume 24-25, 2009-10), a statement mentioned.

Besides, Dr Unmona Borgohain Saikia and Dr Prabuddha Jyoti Das were also awarded, for completing PhD and for clearing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) respectively. Each of the eight awardees was given an amount of Rs 1 lakh and a memento, said Mrinal Hazarika of GNRC.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Nomal Chandra Borah, CMD of GNRC Hospitals said, �A good doctor should also be a good teacher, only then he can prepare the coming breed of doctors to treat patients properly. This event is an attempt to encourage those who take the pain of going that extra mile and benefit people through innovation and research. GNRC's is striving towards excellence in providing quality healthcare to people and setting a superior benchmark in healthcare delivery system in the State.�
