GNLA relaxes bandh in Ampati

By Correspondent

TURA, March 28 In view of Good Friday and Easter festivities, the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has called off the indefinite bandh in Ampati from April 2 to April 6. The outfit, however, stated that the bandh would be reimposed till the demands of the outfit were heard by the government.

The GNLA said in a press release, The purpose of bandh was to pressurise the government to suspend the police official CI Bitching Marak and to arrest former gnla cadre, Mingran Sangma, who carried out a fake encounter at Oragitok on March 4 in which one Sengbath Marak was killed in cold blood.

The Home Minister is ignoring our demand and not taking any action, justifying the Oragitok killings. Therefore, the indefinite bandh shall continue in Ampati until our demands are met, the release added.
