TURA, March 3 Countering the allegations made by the police regarding the crude bomb attack on a petrol pump in Shallang in West Khasi Hills, the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) termed the claim as a guess work with no truth in it. The outfit claimed that the act was actually done by small gang operating in the name of the GNLA.

A press release issued by GNLA joint publicity secretary Garo Mandei Ch Marak stated, The allegation made by police blaming the GNLA for the bomb attack on a petrol pump in Shallang, West Khasi Hills, in which two employees were injured, is only a guess work of the police.

Of late there are countless groups and gangs and petty dacoits who are extorting money and serving demand notes in the name of the GNLA. One recent example is the incident at Rari Bazar in North Garo Hills, where some persons were caught when they were collecting money from businessmen with demand notes served in GNLAs name. There was no demand notes served from our side to the pump manager as alleged by police, added Marak.

The outfit further claimed that it had no intention of harming the people of the region. We also dont intend to hurt anyone, who are just simple small time attendants doing their work. GNLA cadres were not encouraged in throwing crude bombs or anything like that by which public would be harmed asserted Marak in the release.

There are criminals who are posing as GNLA and demanding money in our organizations name. It will be well off if the police catch these small time dacoits who are harassing the general public in the name of GNLA, stated the release.
