TURA, March 16 The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has called off the bandh in Ampati for tomorrow purportedly on the requests of the student community. However, the outfit stated that the bandh in Ampati would resume from Wednesday. It also warned against defying of the bandh call.
A GNLA release stated, Consideringthe plea from a large number of students studying outside the State and facing difficulties financially, we have decided to relax the indefinite bandh for March 17.
However, the bandh will resume from Wednesday onwards apart from Sundays till the government meets with our demand of suspending the police officers responsible in the Oragitok fake encounter, stated Marak.
Meanwhile, State DGP Rajiv Mehta visited Ampati today and took a stock of the prevailing situation. He held a meeting with IGP, Western Range, H Nongpluh, DC South West Garo Hills Ram Singh and SP R Muthu to discuss the current situation. Mehta was briefed on the impact of the bandh call and how it had crippled the town.
The bandh has paralysed all government institutions barring the DCs office with almost all government offices showing zero attendance. The DGP directed
senior police officers to visit interior areas and villages and instill confidence among the people.
