By Correspondent

TURA, June 11 The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) today hit out at the three cadres who surrendered to police in Shillong of being involved in rape cases.

The statement came in the wake of the surrenders as well as the statement made by DGP Rajiv Mehta in which he accused the GNLA of luring the illiterate and jobless youth of Garo Hills to its fold. In a release, the outfit stated that the three cadres, namely Darwin Shira, Dalton Sangma and Timuth Sangma were all involved in rape cases while they were in GNLA and had surrendered on fear of punishment.

The release said, Shira during his tenure had raped two women at gunpoint whereas Dalton had raped an 18-year-old girl from Tombolgre village and Timuth is found guilty of raping a teenager from Ampanggre village.

The outfit also alleged that Dalton has escaped from the organisation with one AK-47 rifle, one pistol and a sum of Rs 5 lakh. He has not surrendered the weapons and is currently associated with Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF), the release claimed.
