GMDA schemes lined up for city facelift

GUWAHATI, Dec 13 � The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has taken up a number of schemes, which are on the anvil for execution in Guwahati.

The major projects include the scheme for digitized maps for the zoning regulation and land use planning, new master plan for the metropolitan areas, delineation of Guwahati metropolitan region, contour survey of the metropolitan region, comprehensive drainage and sewerage plan, drinking water for metropolitan area by 2016, monorail project, jail and project with parking and open space, ambitious riverfront development, modern games village phase II project, CAD based automated building plan software and ISO 9001:2008 standardization for the office.

The GMDA is responsible for planning and development of the metropolitan region and is currently preparing the revised master plan for Guwahati and building byelaws.

�The objective is to secure proper living and sanitary conditions, to conserve and promote public health, safety and general welfare of the people residing in Guwahati,� a GMDA official said.

Meanwhile, the GMDA office building has also been given a facelift with all modern facilities in it.

�The present arrangements can be assumed as a precursor to the attempt of GMDA to embark upon its ambitious plan of morphing Guwahati into a metro. A meticulous planning and rapid yet careful execution of the renovation plan has transformed the GMDA office to its new-look present stature. With the process of ISO 9001:2008 certification on, GMDA is disposed now to render prompt and quality citizen services,� said Dr M Angamuthu, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA.
