GMDA projects to improve roads, drains

GUWAHATI, April 16 �The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has taken up a number of projects for the improvement and construction of roads and drains within the city during the year 2015-16.

Most of such projects, included in the annual plan for the current fiscal, are the long-pending demand of the residents of many localities of the city.

�Often unnoticed, the byelanes of the capital city are in dire need of repair and reconstruction. The annual plan for this year includes many projects for the repair and improvement of the byelanes of Guwahati,� said GMDA chairman Dhiren Baruah.

Altogether, 15 such projects would entail an expenditure of Rs 10,50,00,000.

�The Government is providing us necessary funds for the projects, which are the priority of the GMDA, apart from our existing projects. In view of the ensuing monsoon, work would start on most of the projects from August this year,� added Baruah.

The projects include improvement of roads and drains at Ganpati Nagar at Odalbakra, improvement of Birubari Masjid Path, improvement of roads and guard wall at Gopal Krishna Path at Gitamandir hill, improvement of Parag Das Path byelane No. 11 at Uttar Ananda Nagar and a portion of the road itself ahead of an RCC culvert. The rest of the Parag Das Path linking Ganesh Mandir Path at Uttar Ananda Nagar would be improved by entailing an expenditure of Rs 10.70 crore.

Improvement of roads and storm drain at Kekora Nagar byelane has also been planned. Another RCC stormwater drain would be repaired at Bitupan Nagar to Miajan at Natbama. Roads and drains at Ananda Nagar to Sankar Nagar at Pandu and roads of Damodarnagar at Bamunpara, Lokhra would also be repaired. Another stretch of the Damodar Nagar Road from Milan Nagar Path upto Sankar Deb Sishu Vidya Niketan School at Bamunpara, Lokhra, would also be repaired.

Construction of RCC stormwater drain along RK Mission Road, a long-pending demand of the residents of Birubari area has been included in the list of projects this time. The estimated cost of this project would be around Rs 1.50 crore.

Other projects include roads and drain improvement at Naboday Path, Bhetapara, repair work of the third and fourth byelanes at Bishnu Rabha Path (Beltola-Bhetapara link road).
