GMDA asked to suspend walking zone activity

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 4 - Considering the rush of people on the occasion of Bol Bam Yatra every Sunday, the city police have written to the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for suspending its walking zone activity from the Sukreswar Temple at Panbazar up to the Bharalumukh point.

With the onset of the month of Sawan, the Sukreswar Temple witnesses the congregation of thousands of pilgrims, especially on Sundays, who take part in the Bol Bam Yatra for revering Lord Shiva. Devotees in large numbers walk from Basisthashram to Sukreswar. Considering the rainy season and inconvenience to the devotees and others due to restrictions on vehicular movements on MG Road near the temple because of the walking zone, the GMDA has been requested to suspend the walking zone activity on Sundays of the current month.
