GMC to supply water to many areas from today

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 5 - After two days of hardship faced by people, regular water supply in Lachit Nagar, Guwahati Club, Sarania, Rajgarh, Gandhi Basti and several other localities of the city would be resumed tomorrow by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

Completing the pipeline repair work and testing its effectiveness today, the GMC has confirmed that adequate water would be stored in the Sarania water tank, from where water is supplied in all these areas.

For long, we were worried about the leakage problem in the area, as, despite giving an 18-hour supply, the Sarania tank never seemed to have adequate water. The cause, it was found later, was a major leakage near the Guwahati Club Rotary that cost us nearly two lakh litres of water per day, said Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania.

Since the problem has been fixed and the pipeline has been tested, we would be able to store and supply water in all the affected areas from tomorrow, he added.

The other affected areas include parts of Paltan Bazar and Panbazar. The repair work, however, caused massive traffic congestion on the entire GNB road, Guwahati Club, Ulubari, Silpukhuri, Panbazar and Paltan Bazar areas throughout the day.
