GMC issues notices to marriage halls

GUWAHATI, May 11 � In a major crackdown, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has issued notices to a number of marriage halls in the city asking them to provide details regarding fulfilment of various norms including trade licence and safety aspects.

A senior GMC officials said today that closure notice has been issued to one such establishment, while the cases of many others are been heard.

�Closure notice has been issued to one Bibah Bhavan, while with regard to some others we are at the hearing stage,� he said.

He added that many such establishments are allegedly operating without all requisite permits and not fulfilling proper norms.

�We are giving them an opportunity to submit all relevant documents. If any of them are found to be flouting norms, closure notices will be issued. Many such establishments are allegedly operating without commercial licence, proper parking places and NOCs from GMC, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP),� said the official.
