GUWAHATI, May 16 - The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has penalised an NGO for irregular collection of household waste and for its members not wearing protective equipment.
The NGO, Wings Rural Development Society of Ward No 26 (B) has been fined five per cent of its total monthly bill.
There are altogether 90 NGOs which collect garbage from people�s doorsteps on behalf of the GMC.
A source in the GMC said, �An inspection was undertaken regarding primary collection of waste by the NGO and safety measures provided to the labourers. It was found that the NGO is irregular in collecting household wastes and the labourers do not wear jackets and shoes while collecting the wastes.�
