GUWAHATI, Sept 19 The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has started a special drive to dismantle unauthorised hoardings in the city from Tuesday.

The Corporation has also served notices to a number of advertisement agencies which erected hoardings in violation of relevant rules and without authority for which they have been asked to either comply with the provisions of rules or remove or dismantle those unauthorised hoardings.

On their failure to respond to the Corporations notice, the Enforcement Branch of the Corporation has already started dismantling from September 18 and the drive will continue till all such illegal hoardings are dismantled and removed.

The Corporation has further appealed to the companies/institutions and authorities not to issue any advertisement to agencies which have violated GMC rules.

We have identified the violators and if they do not comply with the laid down rules and regulations, strict action would be initiated against them, official sources stated.

Sources also inform that a number of areas have been identified, especially the market places, where gross violation of rules is taking place.

Earlier too, notices were served to a number of organisations and drives were carried out too. But after some time, the problem emerged again. This time, however, we will keep constant watch, the sources said.

They added that the enforcement wing of the corporation dismantled three such hoardings in Dispur area, two in Basistha area and three in Birubari area on September 18 and one in Ulubari today.

The drive will cover all the areas of the capital city in the next few days, especially the market places, the sources added.
