GMC cleanliness awards under Swachh Survekshan announced

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has announced cleanliness awards as part of the ongoing Swachh Survekshan 2018 initiated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Swachh Survekshan is a comprehensive examination undertaken by the Government of India to assess development and achievement by cities against defined goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The GMC conducted an extensive survey across schools, hotels, hospitals, resident welfare associations and market associations to check cleanliness across various parameters like waste segregation, toilets, etc. A team comprising medical and health officers visited schools, hotels, hospitals, resident welfare associations and market associations to assess the cleanliness levels over the last couple of weeks since the announcement of Swachh Survekshan in Guwahati on December 27 last.

The Don Bosco School, Pan Bazar has been adjudged the cleanest school in Guwahati followed by the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati, and the Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri. Amongst the hotels, Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati, has been adjudged as the cleanest, followed by Hotel Palacio and Hotel Radisson Blu. The Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Amingaon, has been adjudged as the cleanest hospital followed by the Ayursundra Superspeciality Hospital, Boragaon, and the Satribari Christian Hospital. Amongst the residents� welfare associations, the Infinity Signature Estate at Ulubari has been named the cleanest followed by Shine Heaven, Baghorbari, and Spanish Garden, Zoo Road.

The exercise also covered market associations for which the Kacharighat market association got recognised for being the cleanest market followed by the Anandaram Baruah market at Chandmari and Uzan Bazar market.

�The entire exercise has been extensive and the recognition process will encourage all stakeholders to maintain cleanliness as per the guidelines, helping build a clean environment and making our city the cleanest in the country,� said Monalisa Goswami, Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

Besides Commissioner Goswami, the occasion was graced by Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Joint Commissioner Deba Kr Mishra and brand ambassadors Kopil Bora and Sagorika Goswami.

The Swachh Survekshan process will examine various works done by the urban local body towards meeting Swachh Bharat Mission goals and then rate the cities across India on the basis of their performance and achievement.
