By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

DIBRUGARH, Dec 11 - People thronged Chowkidinghee ground here to pay rich tributes to former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on the occasion of public shradhanjali today. An urn containing the ashes of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and a large size portrait of the Jananeta was placed on a decorated plinth for the public to pay their homage.

Amid a huge gathering, the public shradhanjali started off with lighting of a traditional lamp by eminent writer Dr Nagen Saikia followed by invocation in Tai by a troupe from the Tai Ahom community in presence of Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi, the son of Tarun Gogoi.

The invocation in Tai was followed by all faith prayer where several religious leaders from diverse religions offered prayers for the repose of the departed soul.

After about three-hours of public shradhanjali at the Chowkidinghee ground, the urn was carried in procession to Graham Bazar puja ghat near Brahmaputra via Mancotta road for the ceremonial immersion.
