MORIGAON, Dec 12 - The 33rd biennial conference of Morigaon sadar unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha was held here at Gurucharan Medhi Bhavan with a daylong colourful programme on December 11. The programme began with flag hoisting by Bubumoni Goswami, president, Morigaon unit of the Asam Sahitya Sabha followed by smriti tarpan by Ajit Sarma, secretary, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha. The open meeting on the topic Duties of Sahitya Sabha in present time was presided over by Harendra Bora, president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha. Inaugurating the meeting, Naba Kanta Bordoloi, ex-president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha lamented that the glory of Asam Sahitya Sabha which is going to celebrate its 100 years next year has been marred by the alleged nefarious activities of its principal secretary Paramananda Rajbongshi. The highest literary body of the State which had a glorious past and which had shown the right path to the people of Assam at critical moments of its history is in a sorry state this time.

Speaking on the occasion, Bubumoni Goswami, noted human rights activist said that activities of Paramananda Rajbongshi are unfortunate. He further said that the Asam Sahitya Sabha should not play the advertising role of a roof company. Goswami appealed to the Asam Sahitya Sabha to chalk out a modern technology to propagate the Assamese language in the social media. Addressing the gathering, Noor Mahammad, former president of Morigaon Sahitya Sabha sought a clarification of the Asam Sahitya Sabha on the Hindu-Bangladeshi issue.

In the conference, the new executive committee of Morigaon Sahitya Sabha headed by Rekha Gohain as president and Pranab Bhattacharya as secretary was formed.
