Global march against attacks on science

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 20 - The All India People's Science Network (AIPSN) today said it will join the Global March for Science on April 14, when a series of rallies and marches are expected to take place across the world in support of science.

In a statement here, the AIPSN said it sees a pattern in the attacks on science and reason across the world. US President Donald Trump's denial of climate change, and the rejection of evolution and other scientific advancements by some Indian Ministers were the obvious examples of such attacks on science and reason, it asserted.

In India, several attacks have taken place, and rationalists and journalists have been killed. The assassinations of Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare, MM Kalburgi and journalist Gauri Lankesh are a few examples. The AIPSN believes that the scientific community and all people believing in science and reason must unite to resist such attacks.

It also called on all right thinking people to oppose attacks on scientific and educational institutions.

April 14 coincides with Ambedkar Day, it reminded, calling on the scientific community to fight all forms of discrimination in the workplace, particularly on the basis of caste and gender.
