Global HSE conference begins at Hyderabad

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - The fifth edition of Global HSE Conference and Exhibition on Health, Safety & Environment, hosted by Oil India Ltd (OIL), got under way today at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

The theme of the conference is �HSE excellence: A foundation for sustainable growth�, a press release said.

The two-day conference-cum-exhibition was inaugurated today by KT Rama Rao, Minister of Industries, IT & Commerce, Govt of Telangana, Naini Narshima Reddy, Minister of Home Affairs, Govt of Telangana, Jithender Reddy, MP, Dr Sheikh Mohamed Al Khalifa, CEO, Bahrain National Gas Company, in presence of Utpal Bora, Chairman, Global HSE 2017 and CMD, Oil India Ltd, and Arvind Bodhankar, Convener, Global HSE 2017 and Corporate Head - HSE & Sustainability, Tata Motors.

In his address at the inaugural session, Utpal Bora, CMD, OIL, extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and delegates present and gave a background of the conference.

Bora highlighted the importance of HSE in the industry and laid special focus on the HSE preparedness and training for regular as well as contractual employees. He also highlighted the key HSE initiatives undertaken by OIL and mentioned that these best practices may be referred to by other players in the industry as well.

The chief guest for the event, KT Rama Rao, Minister of Industries, IT & Commerce, Govt of Telangana, in his address welcomed all the delegates to the State of Telangana.

While laying strong emphasis on moving from �Best Practices� to �Next Practices�, Rao invited companies and entrepreneurs to invest in Telangana. He said that in addition to being highly investor and business-friendly, the youngest State in the country is also carrying out a massive tree plantation programme, and remains committed to preservation of the environment.
