DIBRUGARH, Aug 17 - Sensation prevails in Borborooah Tea Estate, some 12 km from here following the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl.
The body of the deceased was found in a drain inside the tea garden by the workers this morning. Family sources said that the girl had left for nearby BCPL Township at around 6:30 am for her usual daily wage earning job. After her body was recovered, the news spread like wildfire and all works at the garden practically came to a standstill.
Later, the garden workers and the locals led by the Borborooah unit of the ATTSA and Assam Chah Mazddor Sangha ACMS gheraoed the police station and demanded that the district administration identify and punish the culprits within 24 hours. Sono Oraon, secretary, ATTSA, Borborooah unit has said that in the event of failure on the part of the administration to provide justice to the deceased, the locals would resort to democratic protests.
