GUWAHATI, May 25 - It was a day of girl power at KC Das Commerce College in Chatribari area of Guwahati, as six of its girl students made it to the list of top 10 positions in the HS Final exams.

The premier commerce institution that missed positions last year, made a comeback with six ranks and overall 99 per cent result.

We are proud of our rank holders who have brought laurels to the college. Though we do not differentiate between girl and boy students, having more girls in the merit list definitely sends a positive message to the society. However, we also have a number of brilliant boys who have done very well, but missed the ranks by one or two marks, college principal Dr Hrishikesh Baruah told The Assam Tribune.

In our college, we emphasise on individual attention to each student. We conduct mock tests, do continuous evaluations and take classes even after college hours. We have a Super 10 club to give additional attention to brilliant students. Our teachers even go for home visits, if necessary, he said, while appreciating the role of the college teachers.

A total of 246 out of 311 students got first division and 125 of them got star marks. Moreover, Prasidh Lakhotia got the State highest in economics with 98 marks out of 100.

The second rank holder, Ayushi Jain, vouched for the necessity of regular studies to excel in exams. Daughter of Sanjay Jain and Monica Jain of Bijoynagar, Kamrup, Ayushi studied four to six hours a day regularly. An active Instagram user, she believes that controlled use of social media does no harm to studies.

Well aware of the political scenario, Ayushi believes that education should be the priority of the new Union government along with thrust on creating more jobs. Smart classes are the need of the hour in government schools and colleges, she said.

A jubilant atmosphere prevailed in the college since morning with students, teachers and parents gathering in the premises to share their happiness.

Eighth position holder Disha Jain also hails from Bijoynagar. I believe in hard work and perseverance. Though a rank was not in my mind, I expected good results, said Disha, who wants to become a chartered accountant.

Among the tenth position holders, Jagruti Sethiya wants to pursue her BCom first and then go for MBA as a career option. Our teachers help us find our shortcomings and work on that. Also, my mother always taught me that knowledge is something that can never be taken away from you. My parents played a great role in my success, she added.

For Ishika from Nalbari, it was her good deeds that contribute to her success. I believe in Karma and try giving my best, she said. She also thanked her college and teachers for providing all needed assistance. Muskan, daughter of Arvind and Anju Pachisia from Tihu, wants to pursue a career in Actuarial Science, the discipline to assess risk in insurance, finance and other industries. Since I dont have the scope to study it in Assam, I will either go to Delhi or Kolkata for higher studies, she said. A fan of the Harry Potter series, Muskan wants the new Central government to improve the education system and provide more extracurricular activities in government schools and colleges.
