Girl commits suicide in Tura Women PS

By Correspondent

TURA, June 11 - A 18 year-old girl from Eman Gandagre village in South Garo Hills today committed suicide by hanging herself within the premises of Tura Women Police Station.

According to police, the girl, identified as Silbaline M Sangma, had come to Tura a few days ago to meet a friend and had taken up residence with another friend working as a maid in Dobasipara locality here.

The problem began today when the girl refused to go back home, which raised suspicions of the house owner. He along with residents brought the girl to Dobasipara Beat House at about 8 am today.

As there were no women personnel in the Beat House, she was brought to Tura Women PS. At about 10.30 am she wanted to go the bathroom and a woman constable went along with her, said West Garo Hills district police chief, Dr MGR Kumar.

When the girl did not come out even after 15 minutes, the door was forced open and the girl was found hanging.

We are still investigating the cause of her apparent suicide and are not ruling out a love angle to the case. An inquest was performed and the body has been sent for post mortem, added Dr Kumar.
