Ghatowar re-elected ACMS president

DIBRUGARH, July 21 - Veteran trade union leader Paban Singh Ghatowar was yet again re-elected to the post of president of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) today at its 18th triennial conference held at the Tea and Ex-Tea Tribes� Cultural Centre at Chaulkhowa.

Rupesh Goala, the ACMS branch secretary of Doomdooma was elected as the trade union�s new general secretary. He will be taking over charge from Dileshwar Tanti, former Labour Minister. Nabin Keot, secretary of Dibrugarh branch, Raju Sahu, secretary of Panitola branch, Golap Das Panika, secretary of Borsola branch, Maya Bauri, secretary of Nazira branch were elected as the union�s vice presidents.

RP Singh, former MLA and branch secretary of Tingrai has been made treasurer of the union while Bhimananda Tanti, former ACMS president and former Assam Deputy Speaker will act as the chief adviser. Former Minister Prithibi Majhi was the Returning Officer for the election.

It may be mentioned here that election to the new body was held by ballot after some 41 years. It is gathered that ballot was last used for the union�s election in 1977.
