Get-together of harmony held in Shillong

SHILLONG, Oct 19 - Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan today invoked Mother Goddess Durga and said everyone should be united so that there are no more �abandoned mothers� in the State.

Speaking at the Central Puja Committee-organised annual programme �Get-Together of Harmony� at the Laban Namghar here, Shanmuganathan said he is pained to see young mothers being abandoned by their husbands and who have to fend for the children.

�We have to unite and take this responsibility that there are no more abandoned mothers in the State,� he said to the gathering of religious leaders of different faiths, which is the feature of the annual programme organised during Durga Puja celebrations.

Stressing on the divine feminine powers of Goddess Durga, he said worship of the Goddess gives us allround strength be it mentally or physically.

On the occasion, religious leaders from Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh and Seng Khasi community addressed the gathering and stressed on the need to have a harmonious inter-faith relationship.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa has conveyed his heartiest greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja. He also prayed that the celebration of the festive occasion would strengthen the spirit of unity, brotherhood, goodwill, sacrifice and compassion in the society, for the benefit of humanity.

In his message, the Governor said that the Festival celebrates the magnificence and omnipotence of Goddess Durga. May this year�s Durga Puja usher in a period of peace, happiness and prosperity for all, the Governor wished.
