Genuine citizens need not fear on NRC update: CM

GUWAHATI, April 23 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today asserted that Indian citizens residing in Assam need not fear the rumours aired by vested interest circles and assured that all grievances will be looked into with utmost sincerity while updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

He was of the opinion that the NRC should be updated not just in Assam but across the country.

�We have kept a number of options open for the genuine Indian citizens to get their names enrolled. Today, some people are criticizing me, but it was our government which had favoured the initiative along with the All Assam Students� Union,� Gogoi said.

Meanwhile, Gogoi also said that he has directed the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts to expedite the development activities and ensure proper beneficiary selection on a fast-track basis.

Talking to the mediapersons here today, Gogoi also said the issues related to land patta, mutation and allotment and other public service related issues of the rural population will be addressed in a mission mode manner.

He said, �Schemes related to health, education, employment, sanitation and rehabilitation will be executed with utmost priority.�
