By Correspondent

IMPHAL, July 20 - A 13-hour general strike called by Kangleipak Communist Party-Poirei Meitei militant group passed away peacefully on Wednesday. The strike affected the normal life in the State particularly in Imphal city.

The strike was called in protest against the alleged wrongful regularisation of doctors at the State-run Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences here.

The busy Khwairamband Keithel, the main market area here wore a desolate look since dawn to dusk in view of the strike while shops at Paona International Market, Thangal Bazar, BT Road, Dharmasala, Khoyathong Road remained closed for the day.

Vehicular movement on the inter-district roads and roads leading to Imphal were also severely affected. However, there were reports of movement of private vehicles on these routes.

Though the State Secretariat was open, attendance of staff was very thin. Private offices and commercial establishments in the four valley districts remained closed for the day. There is no report of any untoward incident during the strike.
