By Correspondent

IMPHAL, March 26 - The 17-hour general strike called by Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (Desam) in protest against the induction of Md Ashab Uddin, an independent MLA as a Parliamentary Secretary in BJP-led coalition government in the State, has affected normal life in the border State particularly Imphal on Sunday.

Desam has alleged that the government has inducted a non-local as a Parliamentary Secretary in the government while the indigenous population of the State is struggling for their rights.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren told the media that the Jiribam MLA won the Assembly elections. He contested two times in Panchayat elections also. Stating that he is confused what to do, he added, after all people have elected him.

The general strike which concluded peacefully on Sunday evening, affected normal movement of inter-district and inter-State transport services from dawn to dusk. Shops and commercial establishments remained closed despite the State Governments appeal to call off the strike in public interest.
