General meeting of Govt engineering colleges held

JALUKBARI, Sept 1 - A general meeting of all the stakeholders of government engineering colleges like the AEC, the JEC, the BBEC and the BVEC was held in the Assam Engineering College auditorium here today.

The meeting was addressed by the Engineering College Teachers� Association�s representatives, faculty members, students from different colleges along with the Director of Technical Education, Assam. At the conclusion of the meeting, a resolution was passed where it was agreed by all that under no circumstances or conditions the government engineering colleges will affiliate themselves under the ASTU in the concurrent or the following years.

Intervention by the State Education Minister was also requested for clarification on the matter and a memorandum was also proposed to be submitted to the authorities concerned. The Director of Technical Education, Assam assured that the issue would be placed before the higher authorities of the government for finding a solution.

On the other hand, class boycott by the students of all the government engineering colleges would also be cancelled for 3 days � September 4, 5 and 6. But if the demands of the students are not fulfilled within the three days, a vigorous agitation would be launched by the students, said the students� fraternity.
