Gautam Roy rules out joining BJP

By Correspondent

HAILAKANDI, April 18 - Former minister and Congress leader Gautam Roy has ruled out joining the ruling BJP. Talking to this correspondent, Roy said, I am very happy with Congress and there is no need to join any other party. He was reacting to the comment of State Assemblys Deputy Speaker Dilip Paul regarding his joining the BJP.

In a programme held in Hailakandi on Wednesday last, Paul had commented that BJP doesnt require a leader like Gautam Roy in the party.

Roy, a six time MLA from Katlicherra Assembly constituency, while reacting on his joining the BJP said that the Congress has given him a lot. His father late Santosh Kumar Roy was a Congress MLA, his wife Mandira Roy and son Rahul Roy were also Congress MLAs.

Gautam Roy said that the talk of his joining the BJP is nothing but gossip. He, however, said that joining another party is not an offence. He refuted the allegation that he had maintained relations with State and Barak valleys top BJP leaders. He clearly said that no leaders have contacted him to join BJP.

When asked as to what his decision would be if the BJP leaders contacted him to joined the party, Roy kept mum and smiled mysteriously. His joining the BJP came to light after the comment made by Dilip Paul in Hailakandi. Roy said that he will work for people in need without party affiliation and said his motto of life is public service.

Roy, however, praised the developmental steps taken by the BJP throughout the nation and said that the party is doing well.

When pointed out that BJP may ask a leader like him to join its fold before the Lok Sabha poll in 2019 in order to win, Roy said that this was nothing but speculation.

On the rise of AIUDF in all the three Assembly segments of Hailakandi district despite his presence, Roy said that the people have the answer regarding AIUDFs rise here and he has no comment to make.
