Gauripur remembers Parbati Pd Barua

GAURIPUR, June 9 - The Gauripur branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha remembered the famous Assamese lyricist and poet Parbati Prasad Barua by organising a memorial meeting on Friday in sync with his 55th death anniversary. The memorial meeting was presided over by Kshitish Chandra Ray, president of the branch, while the objectives were explained by secretary Manas Chakrabarty.

The invited speakers and members of the Sabha garlanded the portrait of the lyrical poet and earthen lamps were lit to pay homage to the late poet. Dr Upendrajit Sharma, president of Dhubri Zila Sahitya Sabha while addressing the meet as appointed speaker dwelt at length on the contribution of the lyricist by recalling his evergreen songs and appealed to the gathering to study his writings and popularise his songs among the upcoming singers. The meeting was addressed by Prof Pranab Kumar Barman, retired teacher Sabuj Chakrabarty, Ramkrishna Bhakat, Atul Chandra Ray and a few others. The president in his speech thanked the participants for their active cooperation and help in making the memorial meet a success.
