GUWAHATI, April 21 � Gauhati Town Club (GTC) defeated former champion The Corner Tigers of Pakistan in the final of the 7th Phuket International Tournament at the Karon Stadium in Phuket recently, stated a press release.
In the six-a-side cricket tournament final, The Corner Tigers, batting first, scored 60 runs in 5 overs with Haroon scoring 30 not out. Gautam Dutta of GTC scalped both the openers in the very first over.
In reply, GTC after losing Rana Sarma in the very first over, reached the target with 3 balls to spare with the help of stable innings from Subhrajit Saikia (24 not out) and Hirok (22 runs). Hirakjyoti Das of Gauhati Town Club was adjusted Player of the Tournament, while Haroon of Corner Tiger received the Man of the Final Award.
In the semifinal, GTC demolished Lamma Cricket Club of Hong Kong, featuring Trevor Chappell, while Corner Tigers defeated Perth Postal of Australia in a hard fought match.
There were 24 teams from Australia, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Bangkok, Thailand in the tournament which also had two teams from India, apart from GTC.
