Gauhati Commerce win title

GUWAHATI, March 17 - Gauhati Commerce College lifted the trophy emerging champions in the Inter College Cricket Championship being organised by the Cotton College Union Society at the Judges� Field here.

In the one-sided final today, Gauhati Commerce College hammered Pragjyotish College by 48 runs. Batting first the Gauhati Commerce boys piled up 156 for five in the stipulated 20 overs. Hrishikesh Tamuli 52, Hemanta Buragohain 37 and Subham Mandal 32 were their leading run getters as the Pragjyotish bowlers hardly could put any impact on them.

In reply Pragjyotish could score only 108 in 15.2 overs. Barring Govinda Rajbongshi (46) none of the other batsmen could withstand the Commerce bowlers as man-of-the-match Subham Mandal ripped through their batting line up with a rich five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick. Hrishikesh Tamuly was named the man-of-the-tournament.

Earlier, In two semifinals played yesterday, Gauhati Commerce College defeated KC Das Commerce College by 48 runs while Pragjyotish downed Assam Engineering College by seven wickets.
