Gas well fire creates panic

By Correspondent

TINSUKIA, March 2 - People of Disaojan village under Barekuri police station woke up in panic in the midnight of Tuesday when a fire broke out in the natural gas well of Oil India Ltd (OIL). The fire, suspected to have been caught by a burst of the clogged pipe of the well, continued for about three hours before it was controlled by fire tenders of the OIL.

People of the area have complained that fire often takes place in the well and the matter has been intimated to the OIL authority, but in vain. They also complained that there was no guard or any person posted in the well. Such fires are not only threatening to life but these also cause harm to crops in the nearby areas, they added.
