SHILLONG, Nov 9 - A Garo militant was caught and another, wanted for kidnapping and killing an Intelligence Bureau officer, escaped during an encounter with security forces in Meghalaya�s East Garo Hills district today.
Police said acting on intelligence report, district police along with the State police (Swift Weapon and Tactics) Commandos laid a trap at Samanda for cadres of A�chik Songna An�pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) militants who came to extort money.
An encounter ensued after which one ASAK militant was arrested, Inspector General (Operations) GHP Raju said.
A lot of blood was seen at the place of the encounter and police believe that ASAK leader Sengbat D Shira who was present at the time was injured, he said. � PTI
