Garo Hills residents voice concern over lack of checking

By Correspondent

TURA, March 20 - Residents of the Garo Hills have expressed concern over the lack of any checking at the entry points to the region despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing mayhem everywhere.

Persons entering the Khasi Hills through Byrnihat are being checked for signs of illness, but in the Garo Hills, it is free for all. Are we lesser citizens of the State as there is no alarm? asked Wilness Marak, a resident of Resubelpara.

No check gates or points of quarantine are seen anywhere along the AMPT Road through Tikrikilla-Phulbari.

Last week, a resident of Tura raised an alarm that despite the severity of the pandemic, there is practically no checking along the NH-51.

I came from the Guwahati airport where rigorous checks were done. But there is no such checking in the Garo Hills, which is shocking, said the resident.
