TURA, May 5 � Garo Hills NGOs headed by church leaders and the United Christian Peace Forum is going to hold a peace rally here and other towns of Garo Hills tomorrow to prevent the Garo militant group GNLA from going ahead with their proposed 300 hour bandh threat.

The NGOs and senior citizens and church leaders met at Tura circuit house today and decided to go ahead with the rally to mobilise public opinion against bandhs and also to appeal to the GNLA to desist from such shutdowns that hamper normal life in the long run. The people of Garo Hills will hold rallies at 2.30 pm on Sunday in all the towns of Garo hills, it was decided.

Meanwhile, NGOs and civil societies comprising the Garo Students Union, Mother�s Federation, Federation for Achik Freedom, Achik Social Vigilance and Protection Team and Achik Youth Federation today held an emergent meeting with Nokmas, Church leaders and citizens of Williamnagar at Williamnagar College premises.

The meeting resolved to form the Williamnagar Peace Forum (WPF) to voice against the prevailing law and order situation and escalation of violence in Garo Hills, especially in East Garo Hills.

General Secretary, GSU, John Miltu Sangma talking to the media said that the first agenda of the Forum would be to concentrate on the law and order situation in Garo Hills. He informed that the Forum would be organising a Peace Rally tomorrow at 2 pm and appeal to the GNLA and the Government to let peace and harmony prevail in Garo Hills.

The Forum will submit a memorandum to East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner V K Mantri in this regard. The Forum will also appeal to the Government to hold talks with the banned GNLA, sources informed.
