Garo Hills NGOs condemn arrest of KSU leader

By Correspondent

TURA, May 10 The FKJGP, AYWO and ADE have strongly condemned the arrest of KSU president Daniel Kyriem. The NGOs have further demanded the resignation of Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, calling him a back-stabber.

We condemn the back-stabbing action of the Meghalaya Government by arresting a fellow leader of the KSU. It has been understood in the two meetings with the government that it would drop all charges against the group supporting the implementation of the ILP in the State, said a press release.

We are very proud that KSU president Daniel Kyriem has asked for unconditional release and we support the deadline of 48 hours given for his release. We the 12 NGOs are part and parcel of the ILP Movement and we stand by our brothers in Khasi Hills. Kyriem must be freed unconditionally, added the release.

We are ready for intensive agitation in Garo Hills should the president of KSU not be released unconditionally, warned the NGOs.

The NGOs further accused the government of dragging its feet on the comprehensive mechanism to check influx but resolved to continue the fight to check outsiders.
