Garo Hills commemorates Holy Week

TURA, April 4 � Christians throughout Garo Hills commemorated the Holy Week with prayers and fasting beginning from Palm Sunday. The season of Lent, which covers 50 days of sacrifice, came to an end on Easter Sunday today when Christians celebrated the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ by attending church service and holding feasts for family and friends.

In the Roman Catholic Church in Garo Hills, devotees began the Holy Week with the blessing of the palm leaves, a solemn procession and readings of the Passion of Christ. Thousands of faithfuls attended Church with palm leaves and flowers to commemorate Palm Sunday.

The Bishop of Tura, Rev Andrew R Marak, led the Palm Sunday services at Our Lady of Mary Help of Christians church in Araimile.

Easter vigil also known as Holy Saturday was marked by special midnight services to celebrate Christ�s ressurection from the dead.
