GUWAHATI, Aug 23 � A week after being granted interim conditional bail by the Gauhati High Court, Jewel Garlosa, �chairman�, DHD (J) and the outfit�s �commander-in-chief� Niranjan Hojai today appeared before the Special Court, National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with NIA case number 1/2009and NIA case number 2/2009.
Barring another key accused RH Khan, all the other accused in the cases also appeared before the Court. RH Khan did not appear showing medical grounds.
The cases relate to diversion of public funds towards militant activities besides several other charges of serious nature.
Advocate Bijon Mahajan and advocate Arshad Choudhury appeared on behalf of the accused.
Meanwhile, both Garlosa and Hojai today filed an application with the Court seeking permission to go to the NC Hills. However, as the NIA Court�s jurisdiction encompasses the entire State, the application was considered redundant, although it was kept as part of the record.
It needs mention here that the Court before allowing them to go on bail for four months had imposed certain restrictions on the movement of the duo, which include restriction of their movement outside the Court�s jurisdiction without prior permission.
Both Garlosa and Hojai will leave for NC Hills tomorrow. The next date for hearing has been fixed on September 8.
Coming out of the Court, Jewel Garlosa extended his gratitude to the peace interlocutor, State Government and the Centre and said that they were hopeful of a political solution.
