Garga Chatterjee apologises

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - Garga Chatterjee of West Bengal, who hogged headlines with wrong reasons with controversial comments, today formally apologised to the people of Assam.

Police sources said a lot of backroom string pulling led to the apology sought by Chatterjee. Sources said that though a police team from Assam went to Kolkata to arrest Chatterjee, the team did not get cooperation from West Bengal Police, may be because of the fact that he is close to the ruling party.

Sources said that a senior police officer of Assam did a bit of string pulling using his contacts and a Central agency also got into the act. Finally, information about two wanted terrorists was shared with West Bengal Police, which led to their arrest by the STF of Kolkata and in return, Chatterjee was made to seek apology for his comments about Assam.
